WALL IN HAND
4 books
4 books
4 book objects, tied in linen 1/4 - 4/4 / 2006
book 1: wall in hand 1/4, 200 pages
book 2: wall in hand 2/4, 240 pages
book 3: wall in hand 3/4, 220 pages
book 4: wall in hand 4/4, 240 pages
The work wall in hand, parts 1/4 to 4/4, consists of four books. Each book contains the archived records of one wall in my studio space. All four walls of the actual space are divided-up into numbered sections and photographed with the aid of a self-made Raumfänger [space-catcher] that providing coordinates for orientation. The [space-catcher] is a grid structure made of linen that I hang in the foreground of the space before systematically photographing it. The grid is divided into 110 DIN-A4 pieces. I take a photograph of each A4-sized section of the grid from a fixed distance, including the linen framing. One wall fits into each book.
This process enables me to archive a space in book form with a total of 900 full-page images that can be reassembled to show the full-sized space. The capacity to read the space in the pages of the books has its limitations.
