The video study face to face deals with 'filmic' dialogue as a form of representation and of communication. I work with actors for the first time who use spoken language, and run through tests of some of the paramaters of a dialogue — linguistically, gesturally, mimic codes.
In face to face I experiment with the overshoulder settings employed in sequences of shot/counter-shot to dissolve dialogue filmically. The video shows a male and a female protagonist who communicate wordlessly with one another. Sometimes they copy each other and sometimes they suggest emotions, until they have eye contact with the camera and address the viewer directly with the question: "I don't know what you imagine". Then they return to their wordless dialogue.
